A contemporary way to get involved in Rotary

Ithaca, New York – Ithaca Sunrise Rotary Club is introducing the Rotary Navigator Membership. This is a contemporary way to participate in one of the world’s most recognizable service organizations, Rotary International. This newest form of membership is open to prospective members who live or work in Ithaca and the surrounding areas. Members work together volunteering their time and skills to give back to their local community and the world at large.

Rotary International is an international service organization whose stated human rights purpose is to bring together business and professional leaders in order to provide humanitarian services, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and to advance goodwill and peace around the world. It is a secular organization open to all people regardless of race, color, creed, religion, gender, or political preference. There are 34,282 member clubs worldwide and 1.2 million individuals called Rotarians have joined these clubs.

Rotary Navigator members (RNMs) will be expected to adhere to the ideals of Rotary, which is also referred to as “the four way test”: 1. Is it the truth? 2. Is it fair to all concerned? 3. Will it build goodwill and better friendships? 4. Will it be beneficial to all concerned? RNMs will not be required to attend weekly meetings, yet will be encouraged to participate in two Rotary activities a month. These activities range from volunteering at monthly Rotary community sponsored events and projects to social gatherings. The RNMs will join a monthly conference call to become informed on club activities and receive updates on the progress and initiatives of Rotary international.
